Who's paying for political ads on Google in Australia?
In 2026 so far, $3,541,800 has been spent on Google political advertising in Australia by 243 advertisers.
Spend by party
Google gives each state branch or division its own advertiser record, so a party's real total is scattered - this groups those back into one party total. It only combines advertisers that ARE the party organisation itself; individual MPs and candidates (who make up roughly half of all 2026 spend) aren't yet rolled up into their party here, since that needs a name-to-party lookup this page doesn't have yet.
Recognisable party organisations account for $1,128,750 (32%) of the $3,541,800 total spent in 2026 across all AU-only advertisers.

About this data
Covers advertisers Google verifies as running election ads only in Australia (Regions == 'AU' in Google's advertiser-stats file); their weekly global spend figure is treated as their AU spend. Advertisers who ran ads in AU and another region are excluded from these totals to avoid overstating AU spend - Google's own AU-level weekly/geo breakdown isn't published (its geo-spend file only covers US states). Weekly spend is Google's own advertiser-weekly-spend.csv figure, refreshed by Google every Tuesday for the prior Sunday-Saturday week.
This is a first version, built to gauge whether Google is worth covering alongside our Facebook ad spend page. Google's Political Ads Transparency Report is much smaller for Australia than Meta's (roughly a ninth the size in 2026) and doesn't publish daily AU figures the way Meta does — Google's finest published cadence is weekly. Unlike Facebook's report, Google's data is dominated by parties and individual candidates rather than a broad mix of charities, business and government — so a category taxonomy (like the Facebook page's Party / Advocacy / Union / Business / Government / Charity split) wouldn't add much here. Rolling up individual MPs and candidates into their party is the natural next step, once we have a name-to-party lookup wired in.
