Toll Remote Logistics Wins $151m Marine Supply Contract for Indian Ocean Territories
Toll Remote Logistics has secured a four-year contract worth $151 million to provide marine logistics goods and services to Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. The contract, awarded by the Department of Home Affairs, runs from June 2026 to June 2030 and represents the company's largest single award in a day that saw total government procurement reach $266 million.
Toll Remote Logistics operates as the government and defence division of Toll Group, an Australian freight company founded in 1888 and now owned by Japan Post. The division specialises in supporting military, naval and peacekeeping forces as well as organisations in remote locations. Toll already operates Christmas Island Airport under contract and manages fuel supply to Norfolk Island. The company was named 15th in the 2024 Top 40 Prime Defence Contractors Survey and won Prime Contractor of the Year at the 2023 Australian Defence Industry Awards.
Marine logistics services for remote islands typically encompass vessel operations, stevedoring, freight coordination, warehousing and supply chain management linking isolated territories to mainland Australia. Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, located in the Indian Ocean northwest of Perth, rely heavily on sea freight from Fremantle every four to six weeks, supplemented by fortnightly air cargo. The islands house immigration facilities and are administered by the Department of Infrastructure alongside Home Affairs responsibilities for border operations.
