Understanding preference flows is really important to voting and to running as a candidate. If there's a lesson to take away from looking at preferences above all else it is: If you are voting, put the candidate you want to win first and the one you want to lose last. If you are running: encourage the people voting for you to do exactly that, don't get clever; getting first preference votes is essential if you are to have any chance of winning either straight off or through later preference flows.

The underlying data comes from the AEC. The idea came from Alli from Hughes Deserves Better - the grass-roots movement in the electorate of Hughes.
